Smuggling of fuel hits Upper East again

Fuel smuggling is reported to be on the ascendency in the Upper East Region despite a ban on the sale of the product in large quantities after 9:00 pm.

Regional Minister, Mark Wayongo who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council placed the ban following continued smuggling-induced shortage of fuel in the region.

Joy FM correspondent Joseph Osei reports that fuel station owners have conspired with smugglers to siphon the product into other neighbouring countries where prices are relatively higher.

This he said has culminated in fuel shortages which have affected businesses in the region.
