NETWORK OF JOURNALISTS FOR THE WELFARE OF THE MASSES 0255587045, 0265336918, 0202817318 www.journalistsnet.blogsport .com. 13/02/2012 PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NETWORK OF JOURNALISTS FOR THE WELFARE OF THE MASSES (NETJOWM) ON THE MEDIA REPORTS ON THE GUN SHOTS IN BAWKU.

The Network of Journalist for the Welfare of the Masses (NETJOWM) wishes to react to media report on the murder of one Francis Fusienis an Assemblyman in the bawku area. The Network believes that as a journalists and professional communicators, our reports and presentations can either cause conflict or promote peace in our societies and for that matter in all of our reports we should try as possible to avoid stories and report which can create animosity among families, tribes, political parties etc.
The story about the murder of Mr. Francis Fusienis, which was giving a political colour on most radio stations and news website across the length and breath of this country must be condemn and must not be entertained by all peace loving and patriotic citizens of our dear country.

The reason why the Network is taking this position is because Mr. Fusieni’s murderers did not provide information that they murdered him because he is an NPP member neither did they murdered him during a political clash or in the execution of an NPP activity, so attempt by the media to link it to politics is very wrong and untimely since we are in an election and any such reports can cause mayhem in the area.
A lot of murder is committed in the country daily, and one can imaging where we will be heading to if all is given a political affiliation.
As a country, we are all aware of the protracted conflict in bawku and its environs and such media reportage should not be entertained by Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). We therefore wish to appeal to the GJA to help control the kind of stories on our radio stations and other source of news. We also call on all journalists to refrain from reportages that have the tendencies of causing conflict before, during and after this year’s general elections. Thank you
