Chinese presence in Africa misconstrued by Africa and western media
The allegation of Chinese
involvement in illegal mining has reached an alarming rate. This has resulted
into a huge misconception about Chinese in Ghana. The truth is that there is no
Chinese doing illegal (galamsey) in Ghana. Is a misconception created by people
who see the Chinese as a threat to their business in Africa.
Because China provides
affordable services and products to the middle and lower class who cannot
afford the expensive western products, the westerns feel challenge and have
resulted to using the media and other strategies to create animosity between
China and Ghana (Africa).
The Chinese in Mining only
provides services to Ghanaian own registered mining companies, the reasons why
you see the Chinese working on the ground is that they are hardworking and
don't want to look interventionist like the some foreigners and others who want to sit and direct without
participation.
The Chinese has provided
enormous employment to youths in our rural areas, now instead of rural urban
migration, people prefers to move from the urban areas to the rural areas to
work. If Africa allowed the
Relationship to thrive, the Chinese will establish their manufacturing companies
in Africa to employ the huge unemployed graduates on the streets. Chinas
contribution to our GDP and economy is very huge. They are not harmful but
partners in development. I have done a lot of research into Chinese activities
in Ghana and some parts of Africa and very optimistic that the relationship
between Africa and China will have good benefit to Africa in few years. The
Chinese Approach to development is hard work and determinations and I will be
glad if Chinese Universities and other Education centers are establish in
Africa to inculcate the Chinese development attitude and ideologies in Africans.
In days to come I will put
detail written on “Chinese Presence in Africa and the Westerns propaganda”
online for you all to read.
Joseph Osei.
