The Network of Journalist for the Welfare of the Masses (NETJOWM) wishes to react to media report on the murder of one Francis Fusienis an Assemblyman in the bawku area. The Network believes that as a journalists and professional communicators, our reports and presentations can either cause conflict or promote peace in our societies and for that matter in all of our reports we should try as possible to avoid stories and report which can create animosity among families, tribes, political parties etc. The story about the murder of Mr. Francis Fusienis, which was giving a political colour on most radio stations and news website across the length and breath of this country must be condemn and must not be entertained by all peace loving and patriotic citizens of our dear country. From Osei Joseph, Bolga Tomato farmers in the upper east region are left high and dry by the northern star tomatoes factory which assured them the factory’s preparedness to purchase their product to avoid repetition of a glut, diseases and poor marketing of their products which lead to many farmers committing suicide the previous years. According to the farmers the factory assured them ready market so in order to meet the requirement of the factory most of the them secured loans from the banks to farm in a large scale they said, they were left stranded with their tomatoes when the factory could not purchase their product which lead many of them to commit suicide due to the large tomato glut. One out of the 15 journalists in the Upper East region alleged to have been put on a special payroll of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to defend the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has confirmed being offered a job. The Northern Regional correspondent for Joy and Adom FM, Joseph Osei said he was offered an appointment letter from NYEP and an account number in which a monthly salary would be paid to favour government propaganda. Some tomato farmers in the Nabdam District in the Upper East Region have turned to cultivating marijuana, Joy News has learnt. The farmers claim they are tired of the annual post harvest losses and the bad weather conditions they endure cultivating tomatoes. In 2008, some farmers were reported to have committed suicide after the tomatoes they cultivated ended up in the dust bin. They did not get market for the produce which are highly perishable. This was after they had taken soft loans from banks to facilitate their business. One of the farmers who wants to remain anonymous took Joy FM’s Upper East Regional correspondent Joseph Osei round huge tracts of marijuana farms being cultivated by the farmers along the banks of the Volta lake. They claim the marijuana cultivation is more lucrative, even though it is illegal. Multimedia Group Limited, owners of Joy FM and its sister stations, has issued a strong worded statement dissociating the company from recent allegations of bribery by government officials to some journalists, including a correspondent of the station. An audio tape recording making rounds in the media allegedly has the voice of Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal telling journalists to publish good stories that would boost the image of government. However Baba Jamal has consistently denied the allegations and threatened court action. Residents of Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region have expressed disappointment over the failure of the Ghana Police Service to compensate individuals and businesses who suffered the “unwarranted” attack on them by the its personnel in the latter part of 2010. The Chief of the area Naa Golbila II is therefore calling for immediate justice for residents whose homes were destroyed in a police raid for the arrest of notorious robber Johnson Kombian late last year. The area has also been experiencing a number of chieftaincy and land disputes which often result in violence. Naa Golbila II described the action of the policemen during the raid as unprofessional and an obstruction of the human right of the people.
